SUPERANNUITANŢS

Sir,—Congratulations to Members of Parliament on: 1, the speed with which their commission has reported on their financial needs; 2, its recommendation of a well-deserved increase in salary and allowances. When they receive their tax-free grant (or sooner), will they consider as an act of simple justice that superannuitants (not only government ones) and all on fixed incomes who are of age to receive social security benefits, many of whom have very little more than social security beneficiaries, should be relieved of the tax of Is 6d in the pound, at least on an amount equivalent to what they would receive if on social security? • Perhaps, then, they may hasten the movements of the Commission on Superannuation.—Yours, GOVT. SUPERANNUITANT. August 12, 1955.
