IRON AND STEEL IMPORTS
SUSPENSION OF DUTY ON SOME TYPES (New Zealana Press AMociaUon) WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. Import duty on some heavier types ot iron and-steel has been suspended until the end of the year, and a consolidated order gazetted tonight incoroorates items on which duty was suspended earlier this year. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr D. J. Eyre) said today that because of the difficulty of obtaining certain types of heavier iron and steel from British sources, duty was being temporarily removed from foreign importations to keep down costs. The following is the list of including earlier terms —on which duty will be suspended until December 31, 1955: Galvanised plain black iron—namely angle, tee, bar, bolt, channel, rod, and rolled girders; iron girders expanded, but otherwise unworked. Iron of the following types:—Sheet, plate (including rolled chequered plate), or hoop (except hoop Bin in width or over), plain, whether black, polished, galvanised, plate, tinned, or otherwise coated with metal, n.e.i. (except tinplate); corrugated sheet iron.
