WATERSIDE WORKERS’ AWARD

TRIBUNAL HEARING CLAIMS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. Waterfront employers and workers, having failed to agree on the terms of a new award, have taken their dispute to the Waterfront Industry Tribunal. . The workers’ representatives told the tribunal that although there had been no undue industrial disturbance at New Zealand ports in the last two years, there had been a falling-off of good relations at some of the ports because of present award conditions. The two principal claims of the workers are for an increase of -9d an' hour in the basic rate of pay of 5s an hour and provision in .the award ;for a superannuaton scheme on the basis of equal worker-employer contribution. ’ . The employers have offered in conciliation a pay increase of Id an hour, and have refused the application for a superannuation scheme.
