FILM ROLE FOR N.Z. SINGER

Inia Te Wiata In “A Pattern Of Islands” (N.Z Press Association-Copyright) v (Rec. 10 p.m.) APIA, August 11. The singer, Inia Te Wiata, will arrive in Western Samoa within the next few weeks to take a leading role in the British film. “A Pattern of Islands,” based on the book by Sir Arthur Grimble. The film is being made by an independent British company, Lawrie Productions. Other leading players are Denholm Elliott, Susan Stephen, Gordon Jackson, and Maurice Denham, all from Britain. A large number*of Samoan parts will be filmed, giving Samoans another opportunity to win screen roles. An American company made the film, “Return to Paradise” in Samoa in 1952, and a small Walt Disney unit is at present filming a semi-documentary about Samoa.
