Channel Race May Start Tonight
(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, August 9. This year’s Channel swimming race, organised by Mr Billy Butlin, _ the holiday camp “king.” officially timed to start at Cap Gris Nez, France, on Wednesday night, depending on the weather and the state of the sea. , . . Medical research experts. Studying methods of survival at sea for the Royal Navy, will keep a constant watch on the 21 men and women swimmers during the race. The “Daily Herald” said today that several swimmers training for the race had been bitten by jellyfish, at present plaguing the English southeast coast. One of those bitten was Margaret Sweeney, the New Zealand entrant. Miss Sweeney said: “I was stung on the arms, leg and mouth. Not only did my skin come up in painful red blotches, but I felt sick for several hours.”
