REZONING OF LINWOOD
Six Areas To Be Residential
AMENDMENTS BY COUNCIL Six areas of the Linwood district which had been zoned for light industry were changed by the City Council last evening to residential areas. Existing industries will be allowed to remain, and, with the council’s approval, to expand on property already purchased, and persons who have already bought property will, with the council’s approval, be permitted to use the land for light industrial purposes. The sub-committee set up to consider the rezoning of the Sydenhah. district reported that it had made r further inspection of the district anc proposed to meet again before makins its recommendations.
Linwood areas to be changed from light industrial, to residential are:— The block bounded by tjie centre lines of Saxon street, Tuam street, the west side of Stanmore road, and a line in continuation of the north side of Essex street; the block bounded by the centre lines of Phillips street, St. Asaph street, rear boundaries of sections oh the west side of Nursery road and the northern boundary of the Phillipstown School and church; the block bounded by the centre line of Phillips street, southwestern boundaries of Phillipstown School and, church, centre line of Leeds street, rear boundary of sections on west side of Nursery road, and the rear boundaries of sections on the north side of Ferry road; the block bounded by Ferry road, Lancaster street, Moorhouse and Fitzgerald avenues, except that sections on the Ferry road frontages are changed from to commercial; the block bounded by Moorhouse avenue, Wilsons road, Stevens and Lancaster streets, except that the area at the corner of Moorhouse avenue and Wilsons road remain commercial; and the block bounded by Moorhouse avenue, Lancaster, Stevens and Falsgrave streets, with the exception of sections fronting Falsgrave street, which will remain light industrial.
Three areas which will remain light industrial are the- block bounded by the centre lines of Tuam street, Phillips street, St. Asaph street, and rear boundaries of sections on the west side
of Nursery road; the block bounded by the southern side of Essex street, centre lines of Saxon street, Tuam street, Phillips street, Ferry road and the eastern side of Fitzgerald avenue; and the block bounded by Stevens street, Lancaster Park, Lismore street and Falsgrave street. A small triangular block bounded by Ferry road, Lancaster street and Moorhouse avenue was changed from light industrial to commercial.
FACTORY EXTENSION GRANTED
Permission for extensions to an electrical, and household appliances factory in Maldon street, Sydenham, was granted lest evening by the City Council. •
The town-planning committee reported that it had inspected the factory and considered it definitely a light industry, with practically no nuisance value. It was located in the part of Sydenham at present zoned for light industrial purposes. The adjoining owner had no objection, and had .given the manufacturer first option for purchasing his 'property. Cr. M. B. Howard suggested that the permit should be withheld until the rezoning of Sydenham was decided. Only three councillors voted in favour of her amendent that the committee should reconsider the application.
