SURGICAL CASES AT BURWOOD
NEW USE OF WARDS PROPOSED The use of two wards at Burwood, one for medical and the other for surgical patients, to relieve the waiting list at the Christchurch Hospital, was recommended in the report of the hosP 1 committee to yesterday’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The committee said its recommendation was intended to take effect after the opening of the two geriatric wards. The surgical ward at Burwood, the report said, should be used for any general type of surgery for which ancillary, services could be made availe; JDiat envisaged the reopening of the laboratory ana the necessary radiology being carried out. probably by part-time staff.
The committee also recommended that a deputation consisting of Miss M. B. Howard, M.P. the chairman (Mr V. C. Lawn), the Medical Superintendent (Dr. T. Morton), the board’s architect; and Dr. L. C. L. Averill, chairman of the committee, should go to Wellington to discuss with the Department of Health plans of the proposed surgical block and other matters relating to the development of the hospital, with particular emphasis on the need for the two-theatre scheme.
