U.S. NETWORK OF BASES
WASHINGTON, April 20. The United States Defence Department asked Congress today for authority to spend 2,345,000,000 dollars in the financial year starting July 1 to expand and improve the United States’ world-wide network of military bases. Included was a request for up to 56.000,000 dollars for the Central Intelligence Agency to purchase land and build a central headquarters for its espionage activities. The proposed legislation will include 652,697,000 dollars for overseas construction.
The building programme will include installations in the Pacific Islands and the Far East.
