RETAIL COFFEE PRICES

DROP OF 9D PER LB

In line with overseas trends, retail charges for ground coffee in Christchurch have fallen by 9d per lb. Bestgrade coffee now sells at 8s 3d per lb. The price of top grades of coffee has fallen by £9O a ton in overseas markets in the last few months, and lower grades have fallen even more. Because of the long time taken to ship and distribute coffee to New Zealand consumers from the producing countries, there is usually a time lag of months before a change in the overseas price is reflected in the New Zealand retail price. At least one popular brand of coffee —distributed in New Zealand by a firm of Auckland packers—has not yet been reduced in price. A 11b jar oj this coffee still, costs Ils fid.
