OFFENCES AGAINST GIRL OF 12

YOUNG MAN ADMITS FOUR CHARGES (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 14. “It is incredible that a man would treat a girl of 12 in such a way,” said Detective-Sergeant F. A. Gordon, in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today, when he was prosecuting Cecil Richard Taylor, aged 23, a cook, on four charges of unlawful carnal knowledge of the child. Taylor (Mr K. C. Aekins), pleaded guilty, and was remanded for a week for sentence. Detective-Sergeant Gordon said two of the offences were committed in August of last year, and the other two in January, 1955. The child’s twelfth birthday was on November 3, 1954. Taylor well knew her age, and it was fair to say that the child did not look any older. In January, it was found that the girl was four months pregnant. “The accused can neither read nor write,” said Detective-Sergeant Gordon. “His background is such that he has never had the advantages of educational facilities and a home life common to most others of his age. He was quite frank, and: gave every assistance in clearing up these matters. He is spoken of highly by his employer, tor whom he has worked for six years. The accused has never been in any trouble previously.” Counsel reserved his submissions until next week, when Taylor will appear for sentence.
