DELEGATION TO PEKING
DRIVERS’ FEDERATION REPRESENTATION (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 14. The 750-strong Southland Drivers’ Union was emphatically opposed to the New Zealand Federation being represented at Peking for the May Day celebrations, said the secretary of the union (Mr D. Harris) today when he was asked whether Mr T. Magee, secretary of the Wellington union, and Mr A. S. Roberts, of the Canterbury union, would be official representatives of the federation at Peking. Mr Harris said that when the invitation was received by the New Zealand Drivers' Federation a special national executive meeting was called for March 23, to decide whether the federation should be. officially represented. The executive consists of eight representatives of the different districts, said Mr Harris. The vote was four in favour of sending official representatives and four against. It was decided to be represented at Peking on the casting vote of the chairman, who was Mr Magee.
