WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Amberley.—A letter of resignation from Mrs George, the president, was received with regret at the monthly meeting of the Amberley branch of the Women’s Division Federated Farmers. Mrs Wells a vice-president, was elected to the chair. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs E. L. M. Coop in her bereavement. Come etitions resulted as follows: Large loom: Mrs W. Glenroy.— Discusisons on forming a drama club, floral decoration lectures, the industries fair, the annual meeting and on the birthday party were held at the monthly meeting of the Glenroy branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Hope presided at the February meeting of the Dunsandel. branch of Women’s Division Federated - Farmers. Two films on food poisoning and care in the handling of food were shown, by the Health Department. There Were short discussions on the 1955 annual programme and the silver jubilee celebration. Final arrangements were made for the combined picnic. The programme was arranged and afternoon tea was served by Mesdames W. P. Chatterton, E« G. Wright and F. E. Owers. Competitions resulted:—Large bloom: Mrs J. A. Wright 1, Mrs E. G. Wright 2, Mrs W. J. Balloch 3. Small bloom: Mrs Mackie 1, Mrs Wright 2, Mrs P. F. Chamberlain 3. Rogers presided at the monthly meeting of the Wai-mairi-Papanui branch of the Women’s Division Federated Farmers. One new member, and a visitor from Lancashire were welcomed. Mrs R. Nicholls spoke on the recent conference at Rangiora, ana Mrs A. M. Carpenter on a visit to a factory and the Riccarton racecourse. Competitions were won by Mesdames Ch A !d ?t Wilkins. Russell, Rodgers, Latham and Terral!.

Clarkville-East Eyreton.—The autumn flower show organised by the ClarkvilleEast Eyreton branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the East Eyreton hall. Mrs H. Lucas was judge. Most points gained in the various sections were:—Dahlia: Miss J. Smith and Mrs T. Rowland (equal). Champion dahlia: Mrs Sutherland. Champion small flowered dahlia: Miss J. Smith. Most points in gladioli section: Mrs J. Frost. Champion gladioli: Mrs J. Frost. Most points in decorative section: Mrs J. Frost - Children’s section: Gwenda Johnson and Helen Johnson (equal) 1, Max Hassall 2. Motukarara.—The monthly meeting of the Motukarara branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the hall. There was a good attendance, . including members from neighbouring branches. Mrs H. Stephens presided. Mrs T. D. J. Holdemess spoke and showed slides of her recent visit overseas. The hostesses were Mesdames McKea, L. M. Blanche and D. J. Blanche. Competitions resulted:—A piece of homemade pottery: Mrs L. M. Blanche 1, Mrs D. J. Blanche 2, Mrs H. Stephens 3. Three pots of jam: Mrs Stephens 1, Miss R. Jenkin 2, Mrs Joblin 3. Collection of six flowers: Mrs A. Gebbie 1, Mrs Blanche 2, Mrs L. M. Blanche and Miss R. Jenkin (equal) 3. Halswell.—The monthly meeting and annual picnic of the Halswell branch of the- Women’s Division of Federated Fanners was held at Leithfield Beach. At the short business meeting members were reminded of the rag drive in April. Mrs Lang read the provincial report. Mrs Brake thanked all who had assisted with the Red Cross sub-centre’s flower show. ScargiU-Motunau.—Mrs R. C. Overton presided at the bi-monthly meeting of the Scargill-Motunau branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Sympathy was expressed with the relatives of the late Miss Byrch, and also with Mrs M. Bethell in the death of her husband. Arrangements were made for the annual meeting in March. Mrs Lewitt who is leaving the district was presented with a spray. Dr. Dickson gave a talk entitled “Round the world by Air,” illustrated by slides. Also present were Federated Farmers, and Young Farmers’ Club members and other visitors. View Hill.— The February meeting of the View Hill branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was presided over by Mrs R. C. Taylor. The results of a competition for one dozen plain biscuits was Mrs Thome 1, Mrs Bignell and Mrs H. Taylor (equal) 2. The hostess was Mrs Bignell. Brooklands. — Mrs Cox presided at the monthly meeting of the Brooklands branch of Women’s Division Of Federated Farmers. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs I. L. M. Coop in her recent bereavement. Arrangements were made to hold the annual picnic at Ashley Gorge. Competitions resulted:— cooking: Mrs Cox 1, Mesdames Tebay and Duffield (equal) 2. Sewing: Mrs SimmcAs I, Mesdames Kirk and Green (equal) 2. Decorative: Mrs Macintosh 1, Mesdames Robinson and Black (equal) 2. Large bloom: Mrs Scott 1, Mesdames Tebay, Duffield and Macleod (equal) 2. Small bloom: Mrs Duffield 1, Mrs Simmons 2. Spike or cluster: Mrs Simmons 1, Mesdames Black and Tebay (equal) 2. Tea hostesses were Mesdames Scott and Simmons. Femside.— Mrs Havill presided at the March meeting of the Fernside branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. The sales table realised £1 18s 9d. Competitions resulted as follows:—stem: Mrs Rowe 1, Mrs Ward' and Mrs Chapman (equal) 2, Mrs H. E. Evans and Mrs Ferguson (equal) 3. Large bloom: Mrs Chapman 1, Mrs W. Evans and Mrs J. A.
