ACCIDENTS
WORKMAN DROWNED IN RIVER
(New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON, April 14. The foreman at the stone crushing plant at Te Ore Ore, Sylvan Hansem aged 52, married, with three children, of College street, Masterton, was drowned this morning in the Ruamahunga river. Mr Hansen was guiding a rope when a new cut was being made in a bank of shingle. It is understood the rope suddenly tightened, and the bucket flicked upwards and struck Mr Hansen, who fell into a deep hole in the river. Mr Hansen’s workmates dived into the river to rescue him, but could not find him in the muddy water. The body was recovered by Sergeant G. Spicer. LINESMAN FATALLY INJURED FALL FROM TELEGRAPH POLE (Nalo Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 14. A linesman was fatally injured when he fell from a pole while repairing a broken telegraph wire in Auckland this morning. He was: John Patrick Lynch, aged 27, single, who was staying at the Post and Telegraph Department’s hostel at Mechanic's Bay. Mr Lynch came from Wanganui.
