FINAL TEST AT SYDNEY
Rain May Hold Up Play (Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 24. For nearly two days Sydney and its cricket ground have been drenched by rain, which shows no -sign ol abating. Although the groundsmen have done their best to cover the pitch the rain has seeped through and the outfield is under water. Consequently, even if the weather improves, the chances of play in the final test today are remote. As the weekend may pass before the match begins, England has nominated 13 players for'the final choice. They are: L. HuttoiyCcaptain), P. B. H. May, W. J. Edrich/D. C. S. Compton, A. V. Bedser, T G. Evans, J. H. Wardle, T. W. Q.-aveney, M. C. Cowdrey, T. E. BaAey, R. Appleyard. B. Statham, and ST Tyson. Both Tyson and Bailey should be fit, but there has been no opportunity to try them out. Cowdrey is still suffering from influenza. It seems that this will be a low-scoring match and the appearance of Cowarey is vital to England’s chances. If Tyson and Bailey are fit, it is unlikely that Bedser will play. Wardle provides much-needed variety to the otherwise all-seam attack.
