MODEL AIRCRAFT COMPETITION

De Havilland Trophy Contest A.T.C. EVENT ON MARCH 5 AND 6 Cadets of Air Training Corps squadrons throughout New Zealand will be watting anxiously for the outcome of the de Haydland trophy competition to be held at R.N.Z.A.F. station. Wigram, on March 5 and 6. The trophy is the prize for the annual model aircraft competition among the three A.TC wings of New Zealand. For the last three years it has been won by the Northern district. This year those in the south are determined to carry it on—they already hold all the trophies of any consequence in the A.T.C. Points in the model competition are awarded for model construction and for the flying capabilities of both model and team member. Classes in the. competition are: hand-launched gliders, free-flight rubber-powered aeroplanes, free-flight engine-powered aeroplanes, and control-line models. Three teams, each of six members, take part in the competition.

AH models must be reasonable replicas of known service aircraft. Plans °r -the models are to be produced. ~ in charge of the competition will be Flight Lieutenant D. Watson, acting-commanding officer of Southern Area headquarters, and Flight’ Lieutenant J. R. Morrison, area A.T.C. officer.
