GYMNASTICS POPULAR IN DENMARK

Danish women like gymnastics because it is good for their figure and they can become completely relaxed in the rhythm to music, according to Miss Nina Swartz, leader of the women members of a Danish gymnastic team now visiting Christchurch. Girls begin to take interest at about the age of four, and later at school take part in periods specially set aside for the sport. Miss Swartz is a teacher at the physical education school at Haslev. wnere men and women between the ages of 18 and 30 train to become gymnastic leaders for the great number of clubs in Denmark. The course takes about five months. Miss Swartz said that she was enjoying her visit to New Zealand, and would like to stay for a year and teach at a school or organisation.

ROTARY CONFERENCE The 1955 golden jubilee conference of the fortieth district of Rotary International will open in Christchurch on Sunday, March 6, and continue until Wednesday, March 9. A great many Rotarians are expected in Christchurch for the conference and many of them will be accompaned by their wives. Mr L. V. Phillips, of Lower Hutt, District Governor of the fortieth district, will preside, and Mr Percy Reay, of England, official representative of Rotary International will be present. Mrs Phillips will accompany her husband to Christchurch. Others who are expected in Christchurch include Mr G. G. Hancox, of Palmerston North, District Governor of the thirty-ninth district, and Mrs Hancox, Mr P. F. Fagan, of Masterton, immediate past president of the fortieth district and Mrs Fagan, Dr. and Mrs C. M. Greenslade (Dunedin), Mr Fred Hall-Jones (Invercargill), Sir John and Lady Hott, and Mr and Mrs F. Myers (Wellington), Sir Herbert Hart (Masterton), Mr and Mrs W. H Martin (Westport), Mr and Mrs Hall Watson and Mr and Mrs G. P. Dixon (Nelson).
