HEAD ORDERLY AT HOSPITAL

PRESENTATIONS TO MR W. A. MILLER

Mr W. A. Miller, supervisor of orderlies at the Christchurch Public

Hospital, who will retire today after 40 years’ service at the hospital, was bidden farewell at a function at the hospital yesterday afternoon. On behalf of all branches of the institution, the Medical Superintendent (Dr. T. Morton) presented Mr and Mrs Miller with travelling suitcases, a portable radio, and a monetary gift, and Sister I. Tolerton, the assistantmatron, presented Mrs Miller with a bouquet of flowers. On behalf of undertaking firms, Mr D. R Rhind, also handed a monetary gift to Mr Miller. The secretary of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Mr A. Prentice), who presided, said that Mr Miller had been a “grand employee who never spared himself and always gave the same service—the best and utmost of his ability.” Other speakers were the Rev. Canon H. Williams, who last year retired from .the post of chaplain at the hospital. Dr. D. McK. Dickson, and Dr. A. D. Nelson.

lit appreciation of his help to the police, Inspector J. McKenzie presented Mr Miller with a travelling rug yesterday.
