MURDER TRIAL REPORTS
Sir,—“l.S.T.” is perfectly correct when he says I cannot be conversant with the press of other countries; nor have I any desire to.be, certainly not regarding murder trial reports. Having, an intense urge to express a feeling or idea, I simply set out to try to give expression to it, regardless of standards_ here or in other countries, and unconcerned about the numbers that may approve or disapprove. At the present moment we are free to put our thoughts on paper and submit them to the editor for publication. He, experience has shown me, has standards of his own and can change headings, remove words, lines, or sentences, can withhold a letter in part or in full and give no explanation. I felt recent murder trial reports were inconsiderate in many ways and simply said so.— Yours, etc., F. H. ENGELBRECHT. February 24, 1955.
