A spark from a locomotive set fire to grass bordering the railway track near Northcote road yesterday afternoon. Two units, one from each of the Central and St. Albans stations, attended the outbreak at 3.19 p.m. Units from the Sydenham and Central stations were called to a scrub fire burning on a City Council reserve in Sparks road at 4.36 p.m. The fire was put out before it caused any damage. At 6.20 p.m. two units from the central station went to 307 Cashel street, where an electric oven had caught fire. The occupier of the house is Mrs Ann McCallum. No damage was done. A garage belonging to Mr Henry Gunns, 72 Neville street, and a shed and contents belonging to Mr Wilfrid John Martyn, 66 Neville street, were damaged by a fire which broke out in the morning. A shed owned by Mr Walter Hill, 274 Lyttelton street, was scorched. Units from the Sydenham and central stations answered the call at 11.11 a.m.
