MARE GOING TO ENGLAND
PURCHASE FROM STUD IN SOUTHLAND “The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL, Feb. 23. A five-year-old Lo Zingaro mare from Agility by Siegfried, has been sold to an English breeder by Mr Alex. Chisholm, of Otautau. The mare has been sent to the North Island to be mated to English Time. With the Precipitation horse. Summertime, she.will be shipped to England soon.
Agility, the dam of the mare, was by Siegfried from the Gainsborough mare, Celerity 11, which was- imported from England by Mr Chisholm, owner of the Glentruin Stud. Agility was only lightly raced. She was a half-sister to Boswell, winner of 11 races, including the Wellington Racing Club’s Nai Nai Handicap and the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Paparua Handicap. Celerity II was one of the best race mares of her time, when trained by J. A. Rowland, at Invercargill. She won 18 races, including the Gore and Winton Cups (twice each), the Oamaru Cup. the Riverton Easter Handicap, and the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Provincial, and Ranfurly Handicaps. Hunt Club Profit
A profit of £197 9s 8d 1* shown in the accounts of the South Canterbury Hunt Club, to be presented to the annual meeting of members at Timaru tomorrow evening. A loss of £32 5a 9d Was incurred on the club’s annual race meeting at Washdyke. The main item of expenditure at the race meeting was stakes amounting to £2020. The main item of income was the totalisator profit of £2672 3s 6d.
