TRAVEL AGENTS’ VISITS
INCREASING INTEREST INN.Z. Travel agents' interest in New Zealand appears to be increasing vastly. Recently a group of American agents visited the country, later several others from Britain and Australia toured the scenic spots, and lately a conference of persons interested in the travel business was held at the Chateau Tongariro. The latest travel agent to visit New Zealand is Mr J. Wallace Frame, managing director of Frames* Tours, Ltd., established in 1881, and now the oldest exclusively private travel organisation in England. He will leave New Zealand on Tasman Empire Airways flight from Christchurch to Sydnor on Friday. Like Thomas Cook and Son, the Frame business began with temperance groups in Lancashire. However, according to information given by the firm’s agents in Sydney, “the march of time . . . has obliged the firm to discontinue adherence to the strict principles of the founder.” Frame now owns and operates two hotels in London. The larger of these, the Bennington, is fully licensed, and well known to Australian visitors. Wallace Frame was bom in Lancashire and moved to London 30 years ago. Today his business has 40 branches ip Britain, offices in Paris and. New York, and a fleet of motorcoaches.
