CHURCH ARMY CADET COMMISSIONED
SERVICE AT NEW BRIGHTON
Cadet G. A. Collins, of the Church Army, Auckland, was admitted as a lay evangelist in the Church of England and commissioned as a captain evangelist in the Church Army by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren), at St. Faith’s Church, New Brighton, recently. Others taking part in the ceremony, which followed Evensong, were Captain M. Hart, representing the director of the Church Army, who presented the candidate to the Bishop, and Sister M. K. North, representing the Church Army training college (Auckland), who read a lesson. Captain W. A. Childs read the other lesson.
After the Eishop had examined the candidate and given him his certificate of office, Captain Hart placed the tippet of office round Captain Collins’s shoulders and presented him with a New Testament and small cross. The service was followed by a social gathering in the parish hall. Captain Collins, who passed his final examinations last November, was recently appointed to the parish of New Brighton.
