Air Activity Over Tachen Islands
(Rec. 11 p.m.) TAIPEH, October 23. The official Chinese Nationalist Central News Agency reported today that the Chinese Communists were intensifying raids over the Nationalist Tachen Island group about 250 miles south-east of Shanghai. The agency, in a dispatch from Tachen Island, said that Chinese Communist MIGIS jets flew 18 sorties over the island group, which is off the southern coast of Chekiang province on the mainland. Six conventional Communist fight-
ers also flew over the islands several times. But none of the Communist planes attacked Nationalist positions, the agency said. Nationalist military sources reported that sporadic gun duels were still continuing today between the Communists on the mainland and the Nationalists on the islands off the China coast. The heaviest exchange of fire took place between the Communists on Tumen Island and the Nationalists on Yi Kiang Shan Island in the Tachen group, the sources said.
