LEPROSY TREATMENT

PHYSIOTHERAPY UNIT FOR MAKOGAI

Physiotherapy equipment for the treatment of patients recovering from leprosy is being installed at the Makogai Central Leprosy Hospital, Fiji, by ihe New Zealand Lepers’ Trust Board. The installation was recommended by the island’s former medical superintendent, Dr. J. C. Austin. French medical authorities at Ducos, in New Caledonia, have made great progress with this new form of treatment according to the secretary of the Lepers’ Trust Board (Mr P. J. Twomey). Sister M. Dorothea, one of Makogai’s English nursing sisters, is visiting Ducos to study the type of treatment being given there. She will be in. charge of the new department to be established at Makogai with funds subscribed by New Zealanders.
