THE GENERAL ELECTION
Sir, —A few years ago I listened to Mr Holland explaining away the reasons of our economic ills, and demonstrating the solution by equation as succinctly and.effectively as any social crediter could do it today. His -party swung into power mainly on the promise to make the pound go further, and incidentally through the unpopularity of Labour’s bureaucratic administration. Today he promises reductions in taxation, and in his estimates for the forthcoming year shows an increase in anticipated revenue. Although the people’s greatest concern is the ever-increasing burden of the National Debt, he does not even mention that it has increased in one year from £670,000.000 to approximately £800,000,000, except to say his party has paid off (not reduced, mark you) £24,500,000, and dismisses the subject in those few words. —Yours, etc., SENEX DAVID. October 24, 1954.
