CAMPAIGN NOTES
Roxburgh _ The Government’s muddling of Roxburgh had cost £2,000,000. The scheme had been formulated before the Government came to power, but it would not use New Zealand people and Public Works engineers, but it had cost a little £2,000,000 more—Miss M. B. Howard Sydenham). Butter or Margarine “This country has to reorganise its thinking. We are too butterfat-con-scious. Margarine looks like burner, tastes like butter, and spreads Like butter. Are we going to sell a product at 4s a pound when you can turn out a similar one at Is 9d or 2s?"—Mr T. McGowan (National, Grey Lynn). Personal History “I resent this business of ‘Oh, Mrs Ross is a wealthy widow. She do isn’t know how to work. My. parents were working people and my husband got - £3 a week when we were married. I didn’t marry a millionaire.”—Mrs H. G. Ross, the Minister of Social Welfare, speaking in Hamilton. Confidence Mr A. E. Collins, the Social Credit candidate for Fendalton, had seen practically every family in his electorate, husband or wife or both, Mr A. E. Willyams (Social Credit, Christchurch Central) said at a meeting. j“He told me: ‘I am going to win the (seat by five to one,’” Mr Willyams addad. Fitting Task “The National Party in 1949 winplained it was hard to get the rilght size in children’s clothing. Its difficult to get any size right. In my room ? in Parliament Buildings I am going to put up a line and put out the samples sent to me from all over New Zealand. A Christchurch woman .; bought a brassiere. It was marked 36, • > but it was 34. In spite of what Mr Holland said, the shop w’ould not change it. The woman will have to do some slimming before she can wear that 34. I have it now—but only of course as a sample.”—Miss M. B. Howard (Labour, Sydenham).
