Life In Arctic Held Healthy
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, September 26. A Soviet medical research authority, Professor B. Shvorin, has claimed that the longer people remain in the Arctic, the less liable they become to diseases, reports “The Times.” He contended that Russian scientists, some of whom are now living on icefloes, have proved that life there is healthy, and that the cold has even rendered people immune to disease. Professor Shvorin added that the birthrate in the north was slightly higher than elsewhere on the European continent, and child mortality was lower.
Russian scientists also claimed to have grown vegetables in the Arctic .in artificial soil made from refuse and peat.
