REGIONAL PLANNING AUTHORITY

FORMATION BY LOCAL BODIES A Regional Planning Authority was formally established at a meeting of local bodies in Christchurch yesterday. As a result of the decision, Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon, chairman of the present Metropolitan Town-planning Committee, the existing statutory body, will convene a meeting of the committee to carry a resolution to disband. When the local body representatives met yesterday under the chairmanship of Mr C. Baldwin, Mr F. W. Walter (chairman of the Waimairi County Council) said his council felt that the business should be taken in committee at this stage, so that questions raised in a letter from the council could be ironed out. The meeting unanimously resolved to go into committee. The Waimairi council has asked for three representatives on the new authority, on which the City Council will have four representatives. Boroughs and other counties agreed to the appointment of one member each.
