N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP IN CHRISTCHURCH A satisfactory number of entries have been received for the 1954 New Zealand amateur billiards championship, to be controlled by the Canterbury Amateur Billiards Association. Play will begin on Monday, August 23, and the final will be decided on August 28. Wellington is represented by a strong trio—Lance Stout, a quick and brilliant player, with three titles to his credit; W. Harcourt, winner of the Wellington championship this season, and a very promising snooker player; and H. Robinson, who was runner-up to Harcourt for the Wellington title. • Auckland, which in the past has produced rfiany fine players, will rely upon E. V. Roberts, who has won the New Zealand title on four occasions. J. Proctor and S. Baker are two improvers from Southland. Baker won the Southland championship, and Proctor was runnerup. Alan Twohill, of Greymouth, will defend his title. He has recently shown excellent form. Canterbury will be represented by five players. T. Yesberg, winner of the Canterbury billiards championship, is included in the list, but the other four have yet to be selected. The draw for the opening games is:— Section I.—Twohill (West Coast) v. Canterbury No. 5; Harcourt (Wellington) v. Canterbury No. 6; Robinson (Wellington) v. S. Baker (Southland); E. V. Roberts (Auckland) v. Canterbury No. 3; J. Proctor (Southland) v. T.
