PROSECUTIONS IN HUTT VALLEY
ACTION AGAINST 59 CHILDREN (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 12. Prosecutions arising from police investigations of alleged juvenile immorality in the Hutt Valley were completed today, when Mr J. Drummond, S.M., dealt with 11 cases in the Children’s Court at Lower Hutt. The prosecutions involved 59 children, against whom 100 offences were alleged. Sixteen of the defendants were girls. No statement has been released from the Children’s Court giving the number of offences established or of the cases dismissed, nor has any statement been released outlining how the children have been dealt with where offences have been established. Offences alleged against ’the bovs in both the Magistrate’s Court and the Children’s Court involved unlawful carnal knowledge, attempted unlawful carnal knowledge, and indecent assault of a girl under the age of consent. Though the girls appeared before the Magistrate, the action in these cases was against the girls’ parents, against whom it was alleged that the girls concerned were delinquent children.
