MISS HOWARD SEEKS INQUIRY (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 11. The Minister in charge of Police (Mr W. H. Fortune) was asked in the House of Representatives today by Miss M. B. Howard (Opposition, Sydenham) to have an inquiry into the status of women police in Christchurch with the object of finding -out: “(1) Why trained policewomen are directed to kitchen work. “(2) Why policewomen are used wholly for office work -which could be done by any typist. “(3) Why some wonjen work under the Police Department and others under the Public Service Commission. “(4) Why policewomen are transferred immediately they exercise their right under the regulations, and “(5) Why there is widespread and ’deep discontent among this branch of the service.”
