“THE WINTER’S TALE”
AVQNSIDE HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTATION The usual high standard in stage productions by pupils of the Avonside Girls’ High School was well maintained in their presentation of Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale,” at the Repertory Theatre last evening. Much of the credit must be given to Mrs E. C. Mead, the producer. Strong support was given by the school orchestra under Miss H. Eccles. Considerable imagination was shown in the settings. Like the lavish and colourful costumes they were designed and made by the pupils under the staff’s direction. Some of the voices were rather thin, and the prevalence of coughing*among the audience made many of the lines inaudible; but on the whole the speech was clear and the voices well modulated. and no member of the cast showed any sign of being unfamiliar with her part. The changing of the scenery was made quietly and quickly. Pupils of the school acted as programme sellers and ushers. “The Winter’s Tale,” which drew a capacity audience of parents and interested friends, will be presented again this evening.
