AGRICULTURE DIPLOMA
CHANGES IN COURSE NEXT YEAR The prescription for the diploma of agriculture course’ at Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, will be changed from the beginning of 1955. A minimum period of one year’s practical work will precede an academic course of one year and a half. Two alternatives will be offered for the practical work. A maximum number of 24 students may take a oneyear course of practical work on the college farm. Other students may take a course of .two years’ practical work on approved farms. After the practical work, students will attend the college for the first of two six-montb. academic periods.’ llie siX-month periods win be broken by another six-month period of practical work on approved farms.
At the end of the second period of academic work, students will sit examinations for the diploma. In cases of exceptional merit, a diploma with distinction will be awarded.
At present, students spend the whole of January and part of February on practical work, on the college farm. During the rest of the session, about half the time is devoted to lectures and demonstrations, and half to practical work, taken week about. The course at present occupies two years, but in future will take two years and a half or three years and a half, according to which practical work alternative is taken. There is no diploma with distinction in the present course.
