LIFTING OF TRAM TRACKS

STATE OF ROADS CRITICISED

Criticism of the “shocking state” of Riccarton road where tram tracks have been lifted was made by Mr J. R. Smith at a meeting of the Christchurch Transport Board yesterday. “The state of the road should not be lost sight of,” said Mr Smith. “It should be left in reasonably good order when the tracks are lifted and not the disgrace it is at the moment.” “I have never seen the roads in. •Christchurch in such a shocking condition,” said Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon. The deputy-chairman (Mr C. C. Holland) said that if work in the contractor’s control was not carried out the board had an obvious remedy. A motion that notice be given the contractor to leave the roads in good order after the pulling of the tracks was lost.
