PEACE

Sir, —Political and economic upheaval caused by unequal development of different countries has racked the world over the last half century. During the nineteenth century the Western great Powers by using “superior force” were able to dominate or carve up practically all the countries inhabited by the coloured peoples. While the white man did very well for himself, at the same time he created a strait jacket for these people. The white man, having stolen all the plums, developed an acute attack of religion. He preached to the world what a sin it was to use “force” and promised the coloured people there would be “pie in the sky” if they would wait 50 years. The white man, mentally solidifying round the nineteenth century, barred the door to the twentieth century. The coloured people are under ever-increasing pressure and they must be granted equality with the white man.—Yours, etc., C. FITZGERALD. October 12, 1953.
