PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

N.Z. ALPINE CLUB AWARDS ANNOUNCED (Neu? Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. October 12. Awards were announced today in the New Zealand Alpine Clubs sectional photographic competition. This is an annual competition organised in turn by the various sections of the club in their centres. This year the Otago section arranged the competition, which is open to members of the club throughout New Zealand. There were 76 entries. The alpine, scenic, and topical classes were judged by Mr H. G. Woolman, of Dunedin, and the Guide Alack Cup, for the most outstanding photograph of a purely mountaineering nature, was decided by Mr Franz Barta, of Dunedin. The Guide Alack Cup was won by F. C. Hollows < Otago) with a picture entitled “Snow Road.” The alpine class was won by Allan Reid (Canter-bury-Westland section), with his picture “Sefton,” and L. T. Bruce (Otago section) gained second and third places with “Evening Clouds’ and “Peaks of the Whitburn.” R. L. Preston (Canterbury-Westland section) won the scenic class with his picture “Peace.” “Col de Largentere and Beyond” gained J. H. Johns (Wellington section) second place. The winner of the topical class was Martin Barriball (Canterbury-Westland), with J. N. Hamilton, also of the CanterburyWestland section, second. CanterburyWestland won the sectional coittest, with Otago second and Wellington third.
