N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP J. E. ROBSON AGAIN WINS MEN’S TITLE (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, Sept. 6. A brilliant display against Paul Skelt (Southland) gave J. E. Robson (Auckland) his fifth national badminton title, when he won the men’s championship in Dunedin on Saturday evening. Robson, who beat Skelt 15-1, 15-0, is the first player to hold the national title more than four times. The New Zealand women’s title was won by a 16-year-old Dunedin girl. Miss Sonia Cox. In the final, she beat another Dunedin player. Miss Rae Emslie, 11-2, 11-2. The first national junior boys’ title was won by O. Clegg (Taranaki), and the first girls’ championship by Miss Y. Lawrie (Oamaru). Perhaps the best game on Saturday evening was the men’s doubles final between J. E. Robson (Auckland) and A. L. Scott (Otago), and Paul Skelt and Tony Skelt (Invercargill). Robson and Scott won 15-6, 15-5. Results of New Zealand championship finals were:— Men’s Singles.—J. E. Robson beat P. Skelt, (15-1, 15-0. Women’s Singles.—Miss Cox beat Miss R. Emslie, 11-2, 11-2. Junior Boys’ Singles.—O. Clegg beat R. Reid, 15-6, 15-6. Junior Girls’ Singles.—Miss Y. Lawrie beat Miss J. Hinton, 12-10, 11-2. Men’s Doubles.—J. E. Robson and A. L. Scott beat P. Skelt and T. Skelt, 15-6, 15-5. Women’s Doubles.—Misses Cox and N. Fleming beat Misses A. McKenzie and E. Meyer, 15-2, 15-10. Mixed Doubles.—J. E. Robson and Mrs Robson beat A. L. Scott and Miss S. Cox, 15-3, 15-6.
