FINANCES OF PERSIA

Zahedi Reveals Huge Debts

(Rec. 11 p.m.) TEHERAN, August 28 The new Persian Prime Minister (General Zahedi) yesterday accused the former Prime Minister (Dr. Mussadiq) of leaving Persia in debt to the extent of about £1.967,000,000.

He said a special committee scrutinising the fallen regime’s bookkeeping found the government account at the Persia National Bank alone overdJ awn by about £905,000,000. General Zahedi said Dr. Mussadiq’s domestic policies were “material poverty, moral anarchy, the bloodshed of innocent people, waste of government property, suffocation of the fcress, and violation of the constitution.” He promised that his Government would do its best to make up for Persia’s losses and would admit any mistakes it made.

Persian leaders, including the Shah, say the country is in such desperate straits that they will accept aid from any country, including Russia.
