STOCK EXCHANGES WEEK ENDS ON FIRM NOTE The week on the Christchurch Stock Exchange finished yesterday on a firm note, and markets remained active. Prices showed little variation, and gains outnumbered losses. New Zealand Breweries confirmed their rising tendency by selling 6d up at 41s 3d, with buyers prepared to carry on at the same price, but no further sellers appeared. National Insurance gained 3d in a sale at 25s 9d. Heavy trading persisted in Dalgety’s B shares at the unchanged figure of 9s 3d, the market closing with further buyers at 9s 2d—sellers Id away. Australian Consolidated Industries fluctuated between sales 2d up at 38s 3d and 38s, and there were more in demand at the latter figure. Coles continued to be erratic, with sales Id down at 15s 4d, but late sellers held for 15s 6d. Woolworths, Ltd., sold unchanged at 14s 6d, and at the close there were unsupported sellers at 14s 7d. Buying bids for Woolworths, New Zealand, remained at 19s 9d, and sellers stayed off the market. McKenzies Were close to business, with buyers offering 14s lid and sellers quoting 15s. Canterbury Seed rights regained their sharp drop on Thursday to sell at ss. Quotations for these rights have now closed. A large parcel of Denhard Bakeries, which are seldom traded locally, changed hands at 12s. DOMINION TRANSACTIONS CHRISTCHURCH
