Mr R. Semple, M.P., who has been a patient in the Wellington Public Hospital for about a month, was discharged yesterday and returned to his home in Otaki.—(P.A.)
Dr. Earl Dennis, former public relations officer at the United States Embassy in Wellington, has been offered a similar post at the embassy in Copenhagen. Dr. Dennis, who has been attached to the State Department since he left New Zealand in 1951, was chairman in New Zealand of the United States Educational Foundation and was closely associated with the successful launching of the Fulbright scheme.— (P.A.)
Mr N. Sri Ram, world president of the Theosophical Society, has had to cancel his tour of the South Island. He fell in Wellington and broke a small bone in a foot and has been advised to take a complete rest. Mr Sri Ram, who visited Christchurch several years ago, was to have arrived on Friday.
Dr. F. S. McLean, Director of Public Hygiene, will be in Christchurch next Tuesday and Wednesday. He will confer with the Christchurch Drainage Board’s chief engineer (Mr E. F. Scott) and with Health Department officers. Mr C. S. Trippner, representing the Riccarton Borough Council, was welcomed to a meeting of the Royal Visit Decorations Committee yesterday by the chairman (Mr G. Manning).
Mr Gordon B. Niven, advance manager for the New Zealand Players Company, is visiting Christchurch to make preliminary arrangements for the presentation of the company’s two new productions next month.
