DRESS FOR ROYAL VISIT

GUIDE TO BE ISSUED STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 25. A guide to those who were involved officially and who would have to consider the question of the most suitable dress to wear on various occasions during the forthcoming Royal tour would be given in reasonable time, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) today. Both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh had said they hoped that

individual citizens would not be involved in considerable personal expenditure for what might be a fleeting occasion, said Mr Holland. . He was not prepared to commit himself on the question of the most suitable dress for men and women at the unprecedented occasions offering during the first visit to New Zealand of a reigning monarch, but for some, by virtue of their position representing Her Majesty’s Government and other official bodies, strict adherence to formal dress must be expected on one

or twq occasions, he said. Mr Holland said he hoped that New Zealanders would not feel themselves

obliged to commit themselves to unnecessary expenditure for dress on those occasions when the Queen would be present. ‘Neither I nor any other member oft-the Government would wish to lay down to any of our citizens a hard and fast rule of fashion to be followed on each occasion,” said Mr Holland. "People must feel, free to decide for themselves the most appropriate attire for the day.”

CORSO Gifts.— The extra assistance given to the Greek earthquake sufferers has in no way interfered with the regular programme of relief to other countries, says the Council of Organisations for Relief Services Over-

seas. When the Wairata sails from Wellington this week she will carry 22 cases of New Zealand liquid vitamin extract for the East. Ten cases will go tb Bombay, six to Dacca, and six to Karachi.—(P.A.)
