CONFERENCE ON THEOLOGY
Theological students of the Church of England, Presbyterian Church, Methodist Church, and Church of Christ assembled at Tyndale House, Cashmere, on Monday, for a study course organised by the National Council of Churches in co-operation with the Student Christian Movement. Throughout this week they will have tutorial lectures and addresses on the significance of recent world conferences and on the local district work of the churches.
Everyone who realised the problems of the day and the influence the churches could exert would have goodwill toward the conference, said the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) when he formally opened the conference.
The newly-elected Dominion president of the National Council of Churches (the Rev. H. L. Fiebig) said he did not expect to attend a more important conference than this during his term of office. Those present (nearly 50) would be the new leaders of the church and community. The Rev. David M. Taylor, chairman and host for the course, thanked the National Council of Churches and the Student Christian Movement for organising the conference. Others present were the Rev. A. T. McNaughton, general secretary of the National Cbuncil of Churches, the Rt. Rev. James Baird. Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, the Rev. J. A. Allan, principal of Knox College, Dunedin, and Canon W. F. Bretton. vicar of Lower Hutt.
