PARLIAMENTARY DAY
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 25. The House of Representatives spent today discussing legislation. It passed one bill, the Lbcal Elections and Polls Bill, which authorises local body elections this year on October 31. Seven other bills were put through various stages, but none provoked serious argument On the Workers’ Compensation Amendment Bill, the Labour Government's Minister of Labour, Mr A. McLagan (Riccarton), entered into a verbal battle with the Minister of Labour (Mr W. Sullivan), but he did not dispute the wisdom of the bill; he merely contended that the financial provisions of it should be widened. When the House adjourned at 10.30 p.m., the Minister of Works <Mr W. S. Goosman) was still explaining the provisions of the Town and Country Planning Bill. Tomorrow, when the House resumes at 2.30 p.m., it will debate Ministers’ answers to questions, and tomorrow evening it will probably consider private members’ bills.
