RIOTS FEARED IN PERSIA
Anniversary Of Coup By Mussadiq (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, July 21. Persia is set for nation-wide demonstrations today, the anniversary of the fall from power of Shavam es Saltaneh, who resigned after failing to cope with the riots during his four days in office as Prime Minister, says the correspondent in Teheran of “The Times.’,’ “Security forces are on the alert to ensure order. All American residents here have been advised by the United States Embassy to stay indoors today. “A Court communique exalting the sacrifices made on July 21 last expresses the Shah’s desire for the unity of the nation. “A statement bv Mullah Kashani, the former President of the Majlis, glorifying the ‘martyrs’ of July 21, regrets that so far the culprits have enjoyed impunity and the idedls for which the ‘martyrs’ died have been unfulfilled.”
General Zahedi, the leading opposition candidate to succeed Dr. Mussadiq, has left the Majlis, where he has been taking sanctuary since May 4. “He has received assurances from the Majlis President on his personal security.’’ Reuter’s correspondent in Teheran says that Dr. Mussadiq broadcast an appeal for unity—“the weapon with which we shall conquer our foes.’’ He added: “Do not let our enemies get hold of this weapon from you.’’ His voice broke twice during a 15minute speech when he referred to the “sacrifices of national heroes last year which defeated foreign and imperialistic intrigues. “This year, too, while we have such people in our nation we shall defeat such intrigues.’’ Persia’s history showed that she had always had plenty of people to sacrifice their lives to ensure the country’s security and independence, he said.
