The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours following the time of issue, is:— Situation: a small depression is east of the North Island, and a depression is south of New Zealand. Forecast: north-west winds, becoming strong in many places; some rain in the alps, but elsewhere weather fair, with rising temperatures. Outlook: fair. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate or fresh westerlies; frequent showers and cooler temperatures. Outlook: showers. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER After a frost of 7.1 degrees, the day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a very light north-east wind. The maximum temperature was 54.3 degrees. At midnight the sky was overcast, and there was a light wind from the north-east. The temperature was 37.7 degrees. The barometer, at 29.19 inches (989.3 millibars), was falling unsteadily.
