CASHMERE BUSES
Sir, —One wonders why when there is no bus from Cashmere Hills between 8.27 a.m. and 9.18 a.m., the buses which take the school children up return to town without picking up passengers. A great inconvenience is caused by not having a bus stop at Barrington street. Persons, and there are a number, who shop at Tennyson street and in Sydenham, have now to walk from Karitane to catch the tram —very pleasant when it is raining.— Yours, etc., CASHMERE. July 8, 1953. [“A count of passengers showed that the 8.48 a.m. tram was poorly patronised; the trip was, therefore, eliminated from the bus timetable,” said the general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) when this letter was referred to him. “The school bus runs two trips from Barrington street to the school and then runs to the depot. Passengers travelling to and from Sydenham can book through fares and change vehicles at Barrington street.’’]
