CANTERBURY UNIVERSITY TELEVISION
Sir,—l had the very doubtful pleasure of witnessing the results of the efforts of Canterbury College masters and students to portray with limited material modern television. Having had first hand experience of television for many years, I should like to make it clear to other people who saw this demonstration that what they saw and heard was just about as bad from a technical angle as it could possibly be; and if they should witness television again and it does not compare very favourably with pictures as seen at the cinema there is something wrong either with the transmitter or receiver. I know that this is not constructive criticism, but if the masters or those responsible would like this I should be pleased to give it.—Yours, etc., C. A. ROUSE. July 13, 1953. [When this letter was referred to Mr B. T. Withers, a senior lecturer in electrical engineering at Canterbury University College, he had no comment to make.]
