“WELCOME HOME” FOR PRINCESS
CROWD WAITS FOR ARRIVAL (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 20. Princess Margaret tonight attended her first party since returning from her tour of Southern Rhodesia with the Queen Mother. It was a “welcome home” party given in her honour by the Marchioness of Dufferin and Ava. Among the 20 young people present were several close neighbours of Lady Dufferin. No sooner had red carpets been placed over the steps of Lady Dufferin’s house than a small crowd collected. and when the news leaked out that Princess Margaret was expected the numbers grew rapidly. As Princess Margaret’s car drove up it was surrounded by excited women and girls. The Princess, accompanied by her lady in waiting. Miss Iris Peake, nodded and smiled at the crowd as. wearing a full-skirted semicrinoline frock of white lace, she hurried up the steps to the front door, where Lady Dufferin was waiting to receive her. Some of the women, by pressing forward, had just time to see servants take Princess Margaret’s wrap from her before the door closed. After that the crowd soon melted away.
