CURING A COLD
HEALTH DEPARTMENT’S ADVICE A person with a cold who stays home in bed for a day or so is a public benefactor. He is protecting his neighbour as well as helping himself, says the magazine “Health” the Health Department’s official bulletin. “We are inclined to be selfish over colds and go our way as usual,” it says. “The colds go out to work, to play, to fireside bridge—and keep on spreading.” The magazine recommends: “Rest in bed, or at least indoors. Before retiring take a hot bath, a hot drink, some aspirins and put extra covers on the bed to make you perspire. Stay in bed the next day. “Drink freely, preferably lemon drinks. Eat light simple foods. Take care blowing your nose—very gently always, or you will force germs back into the sinuses, provoking sinusitis or ear troubles.”
This simple routine should have a cold better in three days, the magazine claims.
