CAR TRIAL OVER 6500 MILES
BIG EVENT PLANNED IN AUSTRALIA “Th* biggest and toughest reliability trial ever held in the world,” is the description given to the forthcoming 6500 miles motoring competition through Australia by the oil company sponsoring it and providing the total of £lBOO an prize money. The Australian Sporting Car Club is associated with the company in the organisation of the trial, which is due to start on August 30. Starting at Sydney competitors will follow a route taking them through Brisbane, Townsville, Darwin, Alice Springs, Adelaide, Ballarat, Melbourne, and back to Sydney. Arrangements for refuelling and over-night stops will be organised by the car club. Entries will be confined to production model cars as normally sold to the public with no external modifications. Vehicles primarily designed for the carriage of goods, such as station waggons, utilities, or panel vans are excluded. At least 100 vehicles of the type entered must have been sold, and the same vehicle must be driven by the same crew all through the race. Awards to the outright winner of the trial will be £lOOO and a replica of the trophy given for competition, and awards of £lOO and replicas will be made to the winner of each of the four classes.
